General A/V specs

MATERIAL DELIVERY

Assets can be uploaded to ODMedia through our Faspex solution. We will provide a setup link for your Faspex environment along with a brief user guide. This is the fastest and most secure way to deliver your content.

For both handling and safety reasons, we will typically reject external download links. Download links from professional, industry-standard solutions such as Aspera, Media Shuttle, or Signiant may be accepted, but additional handling costs may apply, depending on the volume and scope of work. Consumer-based download solutions will be rejected regardless of the above.

This is the fastest and most secure way to deliver your content.

HANDLING

Please make sure to only provide the assets that are required for delivery, and refrain from sending more assets than necessary. Failing to do so might result in additional ingest and processing costs.

CONTAINER

The recommended container type is Apple ProRes 422 HQ or ProRes 4444 in their original frame rate and aspect ratio, with video, audio, and timecode embedded.

Other file types such as XDCAM are acceptable. Other delivery formats (i.e. mp4) may be used as source files – if the bitrate is high enough. However, we will process these assets as “sub-par”. Be aware that some platforms may reject these assets. In case of doubt, always consult with ODMedia before delivery.

VIDEO

  • We prefer to receive videos without color bars, slates, or commercial breaks;
  • Burned-in subtitles are not accepted on most platforms, therefore please provide a clean master (supportive on-screen text is allowed);
  • A minimum of 1 frame and a maximum of 1-second black at the head and tail of the program is recommended for OTT deliveries.

AUDIO

Preferred audio specifications, with a documented channel layout:

  • 24-bit at 48kHz;
  • 8 discrete channels containing surround and stereo mixes;
  • Only a 2.0 stereo mix if no 5.1 surround mix is available.

SUBTITLES

ODMedia recommends Netflix-approved subtitles in PAC, DFXP, or STL format. Certain formatted subtitle types such as 888 or AI-generated subtitles that are not checked by an editor may be rejected.

TRAILERS

Please deliver trailers with the same frame rate and aspect ratio as the original program.

Trailers should not contain:

  • URLs (www.odmedia.com);
  • Timed events (“This Christmas” or “Coming Soon”);
  • Any form of nudity;
  • Ratings;
  • Burned-in subtitles.

NOTES ON HDR MATERIALS

For HDR10(+) or Dolby Vision, it is mandatory to receive a static SMPTE ST 2086 or dynamic SMPTE ST 2094 metadata file. For HDR10(+), it is also mandatory to have an SDR file supplied since HDR10(+) files are not backward compatible.

GENERAL REMARKS

Material containing the following examples will likely be rejected by many platforms we deliver to, and repairs we perform may incur extra costs.

  • Upmixed audio, e.g. from stereo to surround;
  • Upscaled video, e.g. from SD to HD;
  • Advertisements, promotions, and website callout links;
  • Censored materials, including mutes, bleeps, and blurs;
  • Burned-in subtitles. We recommend supplying textless materials as a separate file or at the tail of the master;
  • Hardcoded credits, location call-outs, and dates are acceptable.
